DETOUR ->->->

We have had a very busy weekend! Yesterday we went exploring, and I have a bunch of pictures for you; but I will do that on a separate post.
Today we were able to bring another new visitor to church with us. Pray for this man if you think about it. He was raised Catholic and is now kind of "shopping around" for a new religion. We're praying that he will learn of true salvation through our testimony and the preaching at church. Witnessing is a tricky thing with my husband's job, so we have to be very careful of how we go about it. Please pray for an opening to reach this man.
After church we took our visitor to get lunch. The Muslim world is currently in the middle of Ramadan; a month of fasting from sun-up to sun-down (and I'm sure other things). So there are no restaurants open in the area where we go to church. But we did find a bakery open that made sandwiches; so we went there and had the whole place to ourselves!
After lunch we headed for home, but were met with a detour due to road construction. We didn't think that it would be difficult to find our way back to the road, but we were wrong! After a few minutes we started to notice that the atmosphere of the neighborhood had drastically changed. It was becoming more and more obvious to us that we were in Mea Shearim!! Yes, this is the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighborhood where they stone people!! Of all the places to get lost, right?! We had the hardest time finding our way out of there. It took us over an hour before we finally "escaped". Here is a very interesting site about the Ultra-Orthodox Jews of this neighborhood. It gives lots of information; much better than I could describe myself. I would like to say that I did not feel scared or threatened while we were driving through this part of town. Lots of things are said about these people, and it is quite possible that those things are true; but I have never personally seen these actions, and it's hard to imagine someone being so cruel. We did get a lot of strange looks, and we would have had even more if we were walking, but no one was mean to us. It's kind of exciting to have been able to see this neighborhood first hand. It was almost like driving through a time warp into the past. I still can't believe we live here!!
