Yesterday was a busy day of cooking.....
6 lbs of meatloaf, 5 lbs of mashed potatoes, 5 lbs of vegetables, 2 doz homemade rolls, 16 apples worth of homemade applesauce, 3 gallons of Kool-Aid and Iced Tea.
We had the guys that work for my husband over for dinner last night; and boy can they eat!! We barely have any leftovers. Everyone seemed to genuinely enjoy the "American" food, and the fellowship. We're not allowed to vocally witness to these guys, but you know what they say... actions speak louder than words. Having them in our home is a wonderful opportunity; for just as the Bible says, "...be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity." I Tim 4:12
Of course, the Lord will always provide the opportunity to be a witness... it's up to us to take it. I praise God that last night provided several of those opportunities. One of the older gentlemen that was there mentioned that at most people's homes he's ready to run from the house screaming by the end of the meal because of their ill-behaved children. He had nothing but compliments for our kids, and said that he'd never seen children so well behaved. ALL the glory for that goes to the Lord for giving us such a wonderful guide book (the Bible) for training children. During dinner I was asked what I'd like my husband to do for a living after he retires. I told them that I just wanted him to be happy. They said, "Happy's nice; but it doesn't put food on the table." My reply to that was easy, "God will take care of us; I just want him to be happy." There was that very brief moment of stunned silence, but then they all agreed that, that sounded like a great way of thinking. By the end of the evening, a couple of guys were looking at my bookshelf.... which is filled with Bible related books. One of them picked up a book and looked very interested in it. Wouldn't you know.... that was the one book on my shelf that I honestly didn't want anymore. I was looking for someone to give it to, but hadn't found any takers yet. I was able to offer it to him to keep; and it will probably get passed around among the rest of the guys when he's done (they get bored sometimes and will read almost anything!). I know that this book has a salvation message in it...... do you see the LORD working??
After such an evening, even the many, many dishes were a labor of love. Especially with my "double capacity" dishwasher.. (that is, me washing, and my husband drying ;)
Praise God for a wonderful evening!

We have friends who are teaching in a country that is closed to the Gospel, and this is how they witness to those around them. They aren't allowed in their country to start a conversation about Jesus or "religion" but if they have someone in their home and that person asks questions, they are free to answer. So they invite folks over for some conversation and food, and leave their Bible on the table, or something similar. Usually someone will notice it and ask what it is! They have won many, many people to the Lord by having them in their home and allowing the Lord to open the conversation. It's a great tool!
Oh I love it...love it! Praise the LORD!! I think I can guess which book! ;)
What a wonderful outlook you have to SEE this opportunity and have such an affect on those around you! I know that your hubby IS very very thankful for you being HIS wife!
Hugs to those great kids too! ((hugs))
Shows that the LORD will use you no matter where you are, doing even those most NORMAL things of daily life! I'm sure those guys were talking about ALL the labour you put into the evening as well and then talking about wanting your husband HAPPY.
I'm rejoicing with you!
That is such a wonderful post, Pam. What a way to be a witness. He has promised that His word will not come back void. I get so excited just thinking how the Lord may use the book. Who will read it and how it may change their lives. Then their lives will be an example to change the lives of others. It all began with a plate of meatloaf and a kind heart. connie from Texas
