Sewing

As the title implies, I have been busy getting caught up on some sewing. Some of these things I have had cut out for at least a couple of months, but just never got around to actually sewing them.

Hope sent me this really cute fabric for my daughter, and I finally made a jumper out of it. I think it looks really nice, and it's seersucker, so that means no ironing! WooHoo!

Since we're taking a trip to Jordan soon I needed to make sure my daughter had some culottes for the climbing and horse riding that we might do. I asked her if she had any preferences about fabric and she said, "As long as it's not denim..... again." I admit it; I love to use denim. I am what you would call "fashion challenged". In my mind, denim matches everything, therefore making it much easier to include into a wardrobe. But, to please my daughter, I went out of my comfort zone and searched for her request of "pink or purple with flowers". This is what I found:

Why make one when you can make two in twice the time? ;)

Neither of these would have been something I'd have picked if I had seen them in person, but they're not too bad. And my daughter likes them; so I have a happy "customer". Although next time I think I'll make them fuller; they're a little too straight for me. (While zooming in on the above photo I discovered my daughter's hiding place for her Mother's Day presents under the dresser..... I won't tell her I know!)

Now, to prove my denim dependency, here's a picture of what I made for myself:
You guessed it; a denim skirt! The lighting in this room was a little dark, so it almost looks like black, but it's really a dark denim. A quick story about this skirt: I have at least 4 skirts made from this pattern. I've finally found one that fits well and looks nice, so I've stuck with it. On this one I decided to change it up a bit by adding the waistband option instead of a facing. I wanted to wear it for the first time a couple of days ago and put it on that morning to find that the waistband made it very uncomfortable. My rib cage comes really low, only a few inches above my hips, so I have virtually no waist, and this band was just cutting into me. I had somewhere to go in a few hours, but I really wanted to wear this. So, I got out the leftover scraps of denim, quickly cut a new facing, tore out the old waistband, and sewed on the new facing, all within the hour. Problem solved! I am so thankful that I know how to sew!! I wish that I could pass these skills on to other ladies. It is really such a valuable skill to have.

I've told you about a couple of occasions recently when my husband picked a rose for me. That might not seem like blog worthy news to some of you, but believe me, for my husband this is a BIG deal! He's never been a gift giver, for any reason... even birthdays. It wasn't that he didn't care, it was just because of how he was raised. But the past few years he's started to change and has become a lot more thoughtful. For my birthday a couple of years ago he planned for months to give me a day at a fancy spa.... it was wonderful. And now he's been bringing me these lovely flowers, with no occasion at all. So for me, each one of these roses is very special. To think, that he saw this lovely piece of God's creation and thought of me.... that's love.

Pam, way to finish up those projects! One day I will either get caught up or fed up and throw it all away :-)! You have a special hubby. Cherish him as the gift God gave to you! I know you do but a little reminder never hurts!

LOL about the denim. I guess I have no fashion sense either. I love denim.

And the roses are so sweet! I know they must have been a very special surprise.
