Fighting Boredom

Well, the weekend is over so it's back to being alone and bored. Being at home is not a bad thing, but when all you have is government furnishings and your suitcases full of clothes it becomes hard to find things to do. The kids have been very creative. They took these empty water bottles and they balled up a piece of aluminum foil so that they could play bowling. Of course, the water bottle collection has grown since this picture until now we could open a whole bowling alley! I am so proud of how imaginative they've been. For their ages (8 & 3) they complain very little about being bored; even though I can see it on their faces. The good/bad news is that our shipments have arrived, but were sent to Tel Aviv by mistake. We're working on getting this straightened out so that we can get our stuff soon. Tel Aviv is only an hour away, so I'm hoping to get our things delivered this week or early in the next.
I never did post about this past Sunday and church. My husband ended up having to work until about 2:00, so we missed everything. The "evening" service at this church starts at around 2:00 because some of the members live in the West Bank, and you're not allowed to go there after dark. That works for us though; I don't think we'll want to be in the church's neighborhood after dark! Everything looks open for this weekend, so I'm hoping to have a good report for you on Monday.
We got to go to the Jerusalem Mall last night, so that was fun for me. This mall looked just like the ones in the U.S., except the stores were different. But, it was refreshing to see something that looked familiar. I was also very encouraged because every clothing store I passed had lots of modest clothing for sale. I've always had such a hard to time finding things to wear, it will be nice to walk into a store and have a wide selection of things to buy. We went over to the food court to see what kind of restaurants they had. Now, I was expecting people to try to sell me things when we went to the Old City, but not in the food court! The people behind the counters were yelling at us to come to their restaurant and telling us what they had to offer. One man even gave us some falafel to try. They were very eager to have our business. (The falafel was good, by the way!) We noticed that there were 3 or 4 pizza places so we had our hopes up that we would finally find some pizza with meat as a topping. But, no, it was all Kosher. Toppings such as corn, green olives, tomatoes; these things are fine, but they're not pepperoni! We went to the Burger King to see what kind of things they served. They were pretty close to the States, except no cheese on the burgers. They did have soft serve "ice cream" for only 2.50 NIS (about $0.50), so we thought we'd try some. It was very interesting. It tasted just like frozen Cool Whip. We couldn't stay very long at the mall this night because it was already getting late, but I'm anxious to come back and explore. There were at least 3 levels that I saw, and we only went to one of them, so there's a lot left to see. Hopefully I'll have more to blog about soon!

Heather, this was not Eleanor's Falafel!! I don't know what you made, but falafel should not be fishy! I still laugh when I think about it though.
Becky, I'm glad you're enjoying my posts. Thanks for reading!
