Today, a small miracle happened----my husband got to come home early from work! Okay, maybe it's not a miracle, but it's still pretty amazing whenever that happens! Today is a Jewish holiday, and since he works with a lot of Jewish people, there was really nothing for him to do, so he came home around noon. I've mentioned recently how this is a peak time of year for holidays here. I've noticed over the last week that decorations and "party" supplies were being sold everywhere, but I wasn't sure which holiday these were for. I was curious about it, so I looked it up. Today (or specifically last night at sunset) began Sukkot, or the Feast of Tabernacles. If you'd like to find out more about this holiday and what it means, you can click here. Reading about this holiday I noticed that the Jews are commanded to dwell in temporary shelters, as their ancestors did in the wilderness. Since we live in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood, I wondered if I would be able to see any of these booths from the high perch of my top floor. Sure enough, I could see several of them dotting my neighborhood. Here's a couple of pictures of the ones that were closest by my windows. As you look at these pictures, remember that I was looking down on them, so you're mainly seeing the roof. I hope you can make out what you're looking at.
This holiday lasts for 7 days, so I'm hoping to get out and see some more of the celebrations. I'll bring my camera along just in case I see something interesting.

For some reason I can't see the pictures. Oh well, I'll try again later.
How exciting that you get to see all this first hand.
I'm sorry you couldn't see the pictures---I could see them when I brought up my blog, so I didn't realize there was a problem. I hope I've fixed it now so you can see them.
Thanks again for the prayers!
What a neat thing to experience. I will be great to take lots of pictures for rememberance later. Thanks for sharing.
I'm sorry I have not been here. I just seen the post about your son. I will be praying for your son.
How INTERESTING! That is so neat! I know it must be exciting to be there in person to see all this. I'm excited seeing it on your blog! :) Cant' wait for more updates...AND I am so happy your DH got to come home at a decent time! love you all-heather
Yes! Great! I'm so happy to have your pictures and link to learn by.
I actually have a few friends who are not Jewish, but do worship God in the Messianic Jewish tradition. I never can seem to wrap my mind around the depth and significance of the feasts and how they point to Christ.
Fascinating.
We have sutdy about this feast in the Bible but to be where they actually still have them must be very special. It would be to me. Thanks a lot for letting us get a peak. connie from Texas
