Touring and Sewing

Yesterday we had a surprise sightseeing trip to the Old City. My husband has all but sworn off ever stepping foot inside the City again, but we had to go to order a gift for someone. We walked straight to the shop we needed to go to, avoiding all the vendors (except one that convinced me to buy a scarf for $5) ;o) Our business was over in a matter of a few minutes, and then my husband was ready to leave. I couldn't help but feel sad to be leaving so soon. It felt like a waste to come all the way there for just a few minutes, and I feel like there is so much inside that city that I haven't yet been able to see. But, I know how much my husband hates being around the crowds and pushy vendors. That's when I spotted it......The Tower of David Museum! I had forgotten all about it; and it was right in front of me. We decided to go in and look around. I'm not going to pretend to know a lot about the building, but you can find out more about it here. Many people believe that this was the site of Jesus' trial.....but there's no way to know that for sure.

This is the picture I took from inside the walls. Do you see the very tops around the edges of the walls? We went up there to look around at a panorama of the outer city. One of the most interesting things we saw was a small corridor that led to the parapets on top. Inside the corridor were places every 10 feet or so with holes cut into the bottom. The sign said that these holes were for dropping stones, hot oil, or molten lead on the approaching enemies. That was pretty interesting to see.

Good news about our car......it is getting fixed as I write this! That is, unless something goes wrong again. Lord willing, my husband will be driving himself home from work tonight.

I made a little superhero cape for a boy at church, and I just had to post a picture of it. His name is David, and I wanted to put a "D" on the cape for him. Before I made the letter it hit me that this boy only speaks Arabic. My husband helped me out by looking up the appropriate character in the Arabic Alpha Bet and even cutting it out for me. All I had to do was sew it on! I think it's pretty cute.

Now, hopefully we chose the correct "letter". If not, they will at least have a funny reminder of "those Americans" that were at their church for a while. In case you're wondering, I don't like to put ties to go around a child's neck, so I made elasticized arm bands instead. I think he'll like it.

I will have to read about the museum.

What a great idea about the arm bands..I'm with you on the neck ties for kids. You are a thinking-caring MOM! I'm sure little David will love his cape.
and I know your son will need his now too! LOL

About the cape.....both my kids have their own already. I even have video of them making their own show, saying, "Join us next time for more adventures with Superboy & Girl!!"
