Monday

Today, my 8-year-old daughter had a Social Studies assignment to write to her State Representative or Senator, asking them which President they admired most. She chose a Senator, so we went online to find out who these people were for our state. She picked a woman, because she felt more comfortable writing to her. I was at the "contact" page of the website and was getting myself confused about which of the 5 different addresses we should send this letter to. I suggested to my daughter that maybe we could just e-mail her instead. I was surprised and pleased at my daughter's response. She said, "NO! If we e-mail her, then we couldn't give her a tract. I want to put a tract in the envelope with my letter." It honestly had not even crossed my mind to do this. I learn so much from my children.

My daughter also gets credit for the many things that she teaches her little brother. One thing that she's been working with him on is manners. Now my son is walking around the house telling his sister and I, "Ladies first. I'm a gentleman." He's so sweet.

I mentioned recently how I've made a couple of bad fabric choices online and I was hoping this third time would be the charm. I received the fabric today, and I am so glad that it looks to be just what I wanted. The first two were so bad, I just had to post pictures of them. (Although they don't look nearly as bad in the photo as they do in person)
This is the first......I promise that the one on the right looked much different on my computer screen.

This is the second.......they don't clash, I guess, but it does look awfully drab and disgusting.

This is the one that will work! I think it will look very nice in the quilt wall hanging I'll be making with it.

Of course, I'll post pictures of the hanging when it's complete.

I guess that is why quilters are known for having a "stash". A crazy quilt might be in order OR maybe Project Linus http://www.projectlinus.org/index.shtml or Quilts of Valor http://www.qovf.org/ would be some nice projects. I am learning the fine art of picking out fabric. It is an art and I have the fabrics right in front of my nose!

Oh yes...the stash! Do you remember the huge cabinet I have in my house....just for fabric?! I bought a book recently about scrap quilts; I'm hoping to be able to use some of my bits and pieces up that way. I'll check out the links you suggested too and see if I can get involved in some of that.
Picking out fabric is hard, isn't it? I'm like you...even with it right in front of me, I still have a hard time. It's nice having this online excuse for all of my mistakes ;o)

Children are great in that way sometimes.
