I'm having mixed emotions about this change in my daughter's life. It was sort of a bittersweet moment for me. I was excited for her to reach this step in her life, but sad to see my "baby" grow up right before my eyes. Where have the years gone?As of yesterday, I am officially married to a college man. My husband entered his current career right out of high school, but has decided that it would be beneficial to his future to get a college degree. Of course, he'll be taking classes online, so we'll see what kind of challenges that holds. I'm sure he'll have to discipline himself to make the time needed to get it all done; but I'm sure he'll do a great job.
I've been busy sewing.....what else is new, right? I made a "skort" for myself to wear on our upcoming trip to Egypt. I thought it would be nice for when we climb Mt. Sinai.

These pictures don't really do it justice, but I never did find the opportunity to try them on myself for a picture. I like how it has a full skirt panel in front and back, with the culottes underneath. It's very functional this way, without looking awkward. I also made a couple of skirts for my daughter. She's getting to the age where she wants to choose her own style of clothing, so I let her "design" what she wanted. You might have to click on this one to see the detail:
She wanted me to sew wavy lines in all different colors. Yes, I know they are not all straight, but there were too many tiny little stitches to take out to correct it. She likes it; good enough for me!On this second skirt she wanted a little ruffle on the bottom in a color that coordinated with the embroidery on the skirt (which came like that by the way, I didn't do that!)
They are really simple skirts, but she likes these even more since they feel like "hers". I don't know if anyone can appreciate a child's artwork as much their mother (or grandmother). When you know your own child's abilities and then they surprise you with something above what you've previously seen, it can be exciting. Case in point, this picture by my 4-yr-old son:
The elephant in this picture is typical of his artwork, but what I found so interesting was what is above the elephant's head. He told me that the elephant is scared because he's thinking about a mouse. If you click on the picture to enlarge, you'll see a cute little mouse drawn in the "thought bubble". I'm amazed at what kids can pick up on when you don't know they're paying attention. I don't know where he learned that elephants and mice have always had a struggle (in cartoon land, any way). Or where he learned to draw a thought bubble. I just found this really cute..... cute enough to post, obviously!I had a small struggle with pride the past two Sundays. We had visitors to our church, so obviously they don't know anything about our church situation. My piano playing "skills" are still in the one-handed stage. While this is good for hearing the right notes to sing, it doesn't sound like something you would ordinarily hear in church. My first emotion was embarrassment; imagining what they must be thinking. But then I realized that my embarrassment was a slap in the face to God. My playing might sound simple to human ears, but if I am playing to GOD, like I'm supposed to be, then it will be beautiful music to His ears. Once I changed my attitude, and played for the Lord, I was much happier and felt grateful to be able to do it for Him. Of course, that is, after I recovered from missing one complete stanza ---- thinking while you're supposed to be playing isn't a great idea! ;)

Pam, you did such a wonderful wonderful job on your skort and on M's skirts..soooo pretty! What a little designer you have!
(((M))))-the boy;) THAT is a wonderful drawing of an elephant, and I LOVE his fearful"thought". Pam, I *know* your piano playing is a blessing to them..I am glad the Lord helped you see it is certainly a blessing to Him. I love and miss you so much...hope you get your box soon. *ahem* we won't talk about the fact that Mr Brian mailed it not too long ago...:( so sorry about that...
The glasses are adorable...and make her look so grown up! Yep...too quickly they become young ladies! I love the skirt..I wondered about the design on the skirt..what TALENT the LORD has given you.
The drawing is precious...mmm? maybe a budding artist like my son! Probably the ideas come from the coloring books!
I love how you and Heather both find the LORD's work in your heart at times of struggle with the flesh. Our "attitudes" surely play a huge part in our quality of service to the LORD. AMEN! I just wish I could ((hug)) you both in person.
A trip to Egypt. Two of my life dreams! One to visit Israel and the other to visit the pyramids! have fun!
I remember how excited I was to get glasses. I dread the day when my baby needs them. I'm sure he will though-we both have really bad eyesight.
The skirts are very cute. I think it's sweet that she likes to add her own flair.
The drawing is very cute too. I didn't know about the elephant and mouse thing-at least not that I remember.
oh the glasses look so cute on her.
and your sewing..the skort is great and the skirts..I love the extra sewing that was added..do you have an embroidery maching?
ahhh...your son...is getting pretty smart...isn't it amazing how they figure things out?
Congrats to your husband taking the college plunge....
