The first week of school..... is now history. It has gone by very well, with very little complaining from the children. We've tried a couple of new approaches this year that seem to be working very nicely. My son will be 5 next month and this year he is doing the "Learning To Read" program from A.C.E. It's funny; every mother I've ever spoken to about homeschooling said their one fear about starting to teach their children was teaching them how to read. In the past I didn't understand because my daughter took to reading so naturally, I never really 'taught' her how; she just did it. But when it came time to contemplate teaching my son I started to get nervous. It's only the first week, but I am amazed at how well he is doing! He's excited about his "new school", and he is trying to read everything himself. He's so happy with himself when he figures out what a word says, or when he writes his letters correctly. I told him how proud I was of him and he said, "I want to make you happy, Mommy." Maybe this won't be as bad as I thought. My daughter is enjoying a new responsibility I gave her this year. In A.C.E.s program, each day the children are supposed to set goals for how much work they will get done. In the past I always took this job upon myself because, well, I'm controlling that way. I realized this year how selfish that was and how I was robbing my daughter of this opportunity to learn responsibility. She is loving setting her own goals (with my approval, of course). We are all enjoying these new journeys.
There's someone else close to our family taking a new journey as well. I've mentioned my friend Hope many times on this blog. She is my Mom-in-the-Lord and a tremendous blessing to every member of my family. I don't know how many of you read her testimony of how God worked his grace in her family's lives at her blog, Watering Wells of Hope. If you did not read her story.... well, then you should! You can go here to read the first chapter of this amazing testimony. Now Hope is taking us on another journey of God's grace and blessings. She's just started this one, so you don't have to worry about getting caught up. She'll be writing this testimony at her other blog, This is the day.... So go and get yourself a blessing today :o)
And if you have a desire to Glorify God In Your Body, you can go to my other blog by that name. The Lord gave me something recently that is helping me tremendously.... maybe it will help you too.

I'm glad your first week went so well! you are blessed to have 'easy readers.' I had that with my oldest, and now with my youngest...but not the ones in between!
I did ACE for a while when I was a Freshman and Sophomore in High School. I enjoy your testimony about training your kids. Keep up the great work.
Even after teaching children how to read in a traditional school, I still had that feeling of wondering if I would be able to teach my own children to read. Glad schooling is going so well for you.
Oh how joyful to hear those precious words from our children...
"I want to make you happy, Mommy"
You make every day a wonderful "journey and adventure" I'm sure this will be a wonderful school year!
Yep...setting goals is part of "growing up"...
We just switched over to ACE this year. We officially started Monday. I'm glad to hear your first week went so well! I love seeing all your craft projects! BTW, I loved the snap circuits kit you posted about on your dd birthday. I didn't even know such a thing existed. I ordered one for my dd for a school project this year. Thanks! :)
