Rags to Rubies

A couple of months ago my daughter began her summer project of hand-sewing a rag doll. Today we finally have a finished project! This new dolly's name is Ruby (hence the title of my post ;)

Actual sewing time really didn't amount to very much, but procrastination always extends the life of a project. This is the doll while it was still inside out. All of the limbs and hair are tucked away safely inside....
And here she is right side out, although looking a little flat....

And my daughter using the invisible stitch I taught her to close the holes without being detectable....
And here she is; one happy dolly....
With a 'mommy' that loves her....
I think she did a fabulous job! She did every part of this by herself, all by hand. Now the next step will be making clothes for it. She is very excited about this because I told her that I'd teach her how to use my machine to make the clothes. (I'm a little nervous about this one... for my machine's sake)
We (meaning I) needed to make a pattern for a dress, so we had to take lots of measurements. (Notice that her hair is already fixed)....
Her Nana Hope sent her lots of fabric for her birthday and she was having so much fun choosing which fabric will be for which item of clothing (she has a whole wardrobe planned!)....
My daughter cut out the pattern I drew, pinned it down, and cut out all the pieces; ready to be sewn tomorrow....
If we have a successful day, I'm sure you'll be seeing pictures of a doll's dress tomorrow ;)
