I mentioned on
my last post that you might be seeing a dress for the doll today. My daughter could hardly wait to begin sewing on the machine this morning. I gave her a quick introduction, and set her off to practice some simple seams on a scrap. She did an excellent job; much better than I thought she would the first time. Her seams were very straight and she showed good control over the foot pedal and the fabric.

It wasn't long before the entire dress was complete. And here it is....

And the back....

She didn't want to stop sewing after the dress, but I needed to take my own turn to get a little sewing done. She ended up using her practice scrap to turn into a pillow that she could finish by hand (I knew those hand stitches would be appreciated)....

Once again, she did very well... she's a natural.

Well done! It's lovely! I'm inspired to teach Dumpling. How old is your daughter?
Fifi (13) is reading over my shoulder (grrrrr) and said, "Oh, that's a pretty blog..."

How come you never post photos of your children?

Jane~ I can't post pictures of our family for security's sake. We live in a dangerous part of the world where people are not always friendly, especially to people in our position. We don't want to put ourselves in harm's way any more than we have to. Don't worry though... I wasn't offended by your question :)
She did a fantastic job - lace and everything! I believe she's a natural seamstress.
PRECIOUS! I'm so happy for her wonderful accomplishment! Yep, a natural..like her mom! It is wonderful that you have sparked this great talent in her and one that will go on now all her life! The possibilities now are endless!
the doll's name and face are so sweet! Love it!
