Scripture Decor

A lot of you answered my question from the last post.... thanks for that! Personally, I've never been much of one to hang a lot of things on the walls, especially if I'm not there for long. I usually have to be somewhere for several months before I even figure out the right place to put anything! I will however hang up the necessities; shelves, pot rack, clocks, etc. My favorite suggestion however was from Hope. In referencing what things to choose to decorate with she said, "remember the scriptures speak to visitors!" What a good point... if I'm only going to choose to hang a few items, I should make them items that give praise to God and/or share scripture with visitors and also be a daily reminder to ourselves.

Which leads me to another question for you... Do you have any interesting ways of displaying scripture in your home? And, what is your favorite verse/passage to have displayed?

in my opinon the biggest mistake people make in hanging things, is hanging them tooooo high...
for ideas, check out blogs and magazines...I like to have something that says I am a Christian or our home is a Christian home when you FIRST come in the door...don't know if that helps or not.

I like Psalm 127:1a. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it:

I use vinyl sticky paper to put Scriptures up sometimes, here's a link to a post I did about it.
Make sure to take lots of pictures so we can get motivated.

I have always hung pics at eye level..you don't want people looking UP at your ceiling...or the floor to view your pic.

I have scripture...by my front door entry...one in the bathroom....livingroom...bedroom and kitchen.

You can also put frames on easles...and propped up on a shelf.

The guest will definetly know where the heart of your home is!

Like you, we've moved around ALOT. (Husband is DoD and we've done several overseas assignments). I always love to get things on the walls. It makes the house seem like my home.

My favorite scripture display, which isn't currently haning in this house due to lack of wall space, was a hand lettered 8x10 of Eph 6:1 which I hung in the middle of the display and then surrounded it by each of our 6 childrens baby pictures!

ok, Pam, here's my post!:o) I made scripture pictures by cutting out pictures from old Country magazines and then gluing them along with a suitable scripture verse to a couple different colors of sturdy construction paper. Then framed them. I did them in Russian for our Russian ladies and in Estonian for our Estonian friends. My favorite was a picture of a pathway with John 14:6 at the bottom. Then I took them to the local store and picked out the right color of frame for each different color scheme. They all loved them. Haven't got any done for myself though! That's next (as soon as I can find where I put the rest of the pictures I had!)

I have a lot of beautiful Scripture art in my head that hasn't yet translated to my walls. Today's Proverb - chapter 6 - talks about other ways we are to keep it: in our hearts and around our necks. So this morning I literally wrote four verses to memorize on cards, punched a hole in the corner and looped a long elastic string through. Put it around my neck, and VOILA, my accessory for the day. Seriously though, verse 23 compares scripture to a lamp, a light, and the way of life...so it got me thinking as to how that can inform placement on walls: wherever a lamp or candle on the wall be most appropriate. And I would rather than the words be more prominent than the picture. Good topic, and great comments.

I have scripture that I have embroidered in my home. Also, when my mother's best friend went home to be with the Lord, there was a time of fellowship and food at her home after the funeral. I had not been in that new home before. She had the Word everywhere! But subtly in little places. . .a tiny verse painted on a tiny ceramic tile in the powder room. Little reminders of the Lord everywhere I looked, but nothing "in your face". Oh, what a wonderful witness of a life immersed in her walk with God.

I have edited a few photos that I have taken in the past and added Scripture to them via Picnik.com/Flickr and have ordered prints of them. I have two on our bathroom wall and others are placed on shelves, the piano, etc... I love the idea of cross-stiching some but haven't been able to do that, yet. I, also, love the idea that Tori did but haven't done that either. ;o)
But I just love having Scripture throughout the house! It blesses me and my family and is a wonderful testimony for those that visit. *Ü*
