The Birthday Boy

Today my baby turned 5 years old. Where does the time go? My husband was able to take the whole day off from work, and we spent the entire day having fun together. After breakfast my son went on a treasure hunt for his gifts. I made him a map and he went around the house searching for his presents; it was lots of fun.
After presents and a little play time, we went to McDonald's for lunch. McDonald's is a huge treat here that we very seldom indulge in. But on birthdays we go all out and the kids get to order a Happy Meal. That's a big deal when a Happy Meal is almost $8! We enjoyed our treat and then came home for cake. I made cupcakes this time, but there's always a slight problem with cake in our house. I don't eat sugar, my husband is not a big fan of it, and the kids aren't allowed very much of it; so we always have lots leftover. So, we invited some of our new friends over to share the cake with us. That was fun (although we still have lots left!). Then our friends joined us for a trip to the zoo. This time of year is perfect for a visit to the zoo because the local children are in school. Since we and our friends both homeschool, this was not an issue for us! We spent about 3 1/2 hours there and we had a wonderful time. Now, at the end of the day, we are all worn out, but we are happy.
I thank God for the ability to do these things together and most of all for giving me such a wonderful little man. He says that when he grows up he wants to be a missionary... oh, how I pray that he will continually seek to serve the Lord as he grows!!
"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." 3John 1:4
!!Happy Birthday, Son!!

The zoo here is one of our favorite spots. The kids never tire of going there, and it is just the right size for small ones. Glad you all had such a good day and that your little man got to share it with friends. I'm sure a few months ago you would not have thought that it would have been possible for him to have friends to celebrate his birthday with. That is such a blessing.

God will use all of your little man's experiences through his younger years to make him into the man He wants him to be in the future. It is like a puzzle and we are only getting to see this one piece right now.
