Embellishing

I've been able to work a little bit on one of my dresses this week. Not as much as I would have liked to, but I did get some assembly and embellishment finished. The dress I'm currently working on is from this pattern; McCall's 4769...
Mine will be the longer version, with short sleeves and no belt or sash. I also plan on placing the buttons in such a way so that the neckline doesn't come so low. I wanted a way to make the dress a little extra special and add a nice touch to really make it 'mine', so I decided to do a small amount of hand embroidery for accents. Because of the fabric's color and pattern I wanted the embroidery to be more simple and subtle. I chose to do all of the work in ecru with only very basic designs; it kind of reminds me of lace...
I only did small amounts on the cuffs of the sleeves and on (what will be) the points of the collar. Because of the dark color of the fabric I would have had trouble seeing a design drawn right on, so I just started stitching and created as I went. The tricky part was trying to copy what I had done on the other side! I think they came out nicely though. This was my first time trying embroidery (other than cross stitch) and I am officially hooked! I'm going to have lots of fun embellishing the garments I make.
